Trend-setting: the K831 pendant luminaire brings light to every corner - thanks to its adjustable reflector
A beautifully designed classic luminaire has been brought to new life:
The "K831" pendant luminaire combines tradition and quality with timeless, functional design. The re-edition manufactured by Midgard is based on a design from the 1930s, which is characterised by a swivelling, round shade. This allows the light cone to be directed at will and as required. The re-edition was developed by David Einsiedler and Joke Rasch, owners of the historic luminaire brand Midgard. Today, the collection of this iconic luminaire includes different colour and material versions. Midgard attaches particular importance to sustainable, traditional materials and manufacturing techniques in the production process, which takes place exclusively in Germany.
For the re-edition, Einsiedler and Rasch have deliberately oriented themselves to the functional principle of the urspru¨nglichen design, which was influenced by the Bauhaus, but have updated it in terms of form and material in a contemporary way. The most important design feature of the K831 - then as now - is the reflector that swivels around and rests on the lower, hemispherical part of the housing. The flexible light source fits perfectly with the philosophy of Curt Fischer, the inventor of steerable light, and his 1919 gegru¨ndeten brand Midgard. Today, the shade of the K831 - just like all other Midgard luminaires - is carefully handcrafted: either steel, aluminium or copper is used in the classic manner by hand gedru¨ckt. The aluminium version is then optionally powder-coated in colour and the steel shades are enamelled in fu¨nf colours (pearl white, Blassgru¨n, concrete grey, black or anthracite, inside white). The housing of the K 831, on which a rotary switch is located, is made of bakelite, the first fully synthetic, industrially produced plastic in history. Like the original, the K831 is mounted on a textile cable, which is also available in different colours (anthracite, light grey, neon yellow, orange, red). Fu¨r the light source is an E27 lampholder, which is state-of-the-art and LED-compatible.
