Information

Our mineral stains are available in a semi-transparent (1020 SiLazur) and opaque finish (1010 QuartzGuard). 1020 SiLazur will allow background variation to show through in the new color and 1010 QuartzGuard will result in a completely uniform finish. 1020 SiLazur can be diluted as much as desired to increase transparency. The difference between the two products is similar to the difference between staining and painting a piece of wood. Both products function exactly the same and are equally breathable – the only difference is the opacity. Mineral based stains bond completely differently than acrylic/latex paints - they don't stick to the surface and form a film that traps moisture in. Rather, they soak in and chemically bond to the inside of the wall by crystallization. Most importantly mineral stains do not affect the breathability of the surface and allow any internal moisture to evaporate naturally. The US Perm rating of our products is 79 (independent lab reports are available) as compared to latex paints which range between 1 and 15 US Perms. Trapped moisture will eventually cause latex paint to lift, crack and peel, requiring expensive and continual maintenance. It is chemically impossible for a mineral based stain to peel and the exceptional breatheability sets these products apart from any other coating for masonry. Our products are made using inorganic pigments, which are impervious to UV (as compared to organic pigments for acrylic/latex paints which fade) allowing our stains to permanently maintain their rich and vibrant color. All our mineral stains come with a 10 year product warranty.
